League Cup Quarter Final, Saturday 28th October 2006

Coldstream 1 Whitehill Welfare
9

Whitehill crushed Coldstream with a convincing display to reach the League Cup Semi finals.

Welfare did not take this quarter final tie lightly and attacked from the outset with the management telling the players in no uncertain terms that should they underperform then they would struggle.

Straight from the first whistle they took total control of the game scoring in the second minute through Andy Malone, the same player added a second in 12 mins, and it seemed Welfare were likely to score with every attack. After 28 minutes Wayne McIntosh scored from a knock down from strike partner Andy Malone. Malone then completed his hat trick a minute later with a good strike. McIntosh made it five when he slid ball under keeper 5 minutes before the break. Just before half time Coldstream scored from a free kick which took the shine of the first half.

The second half was much of the same although Welfare seemed to slacken of at times thinking the game was finished which is inevitable when it is so one sided. Further scorers were Wayne McIntosh with another 2 goals completing a four-goal haul with single goals by Ross Johnston and Ritchie Wilkes completing a very satisfying 90 mins. We now meet Easthouses away in the semi-finals and look forward to another competitive game.

Whitehill Welfare: McGurk, Cornett, Lee, Johnston, Woodburn, Hart, Christie, Wilkes, McIntosh, Doig, Malone Subs: McDonagh, C. Fisher, McEwan, Stewart, Swain.
