East of Scotland Premier League, Saturday 8th December 2007

Selkirk 0 Whitehill Welfare 3

Whitehill made the journey to Yarrow Park thinking the game was likely to be called off due to the wet weather which had descended upon most of central Scotland. However, the Yarrow Park playing surface was in excellent condition.

Selkirk fielded a younger side, with Ryan Pritchard leading the attack as an out and out target man. This tactic proved very useful as the Souters pressed Whitehill and exposed them on a number of occasions but were unable to breach a very sturdy defence.

Welfare went ahead against the run of play when they were awarded a penalty after Lothian was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box. Darren Pryde converted to give Welfare the lead at half-time.

The second half saw the weather worsen but Selkirk pressed Whitehill back. In the 70th minute, with the game finely balanced and with Selkirk on the attack, they paid the ultimate penalty. A poor offside trap attempt went horribly wrong and a well-driven ball was converted at close range by Alan McDonagh.

With only minutes remaining, a well-driven shot which was parried by the Selkirk keeper and Gary Calvey smashed home the rebound at the second attempt.
