East of Scotland Premier League, Saturday 15th September 2007
Whitehill Welfare 4 Craigroyston 0
Craigroyston started the
game brightly but it was the home side who had the first
chance, only for Ross Taylor to save well from Andrew Doig.
Scott Gormley almost opened the scoring for Whitehill when
he intercepted a poor pass, but after rounding Taylor his
shot from a narrow angle rebounded off the post.
It was Gormley who took advantage when the visiting
defence missed a long clearance to score via the inside of
the post. Gormley was involved in his side's second goal
when his cut back was converted by Doig. By now,
Whitehill were well on top, but a combination of poor
finishing and good goalkeeping prevented a third goal
until just on half time, when ex-Craigie player Gary
Calvey headed in a Kevin Lee cross.
Craigroyston came out fighting at the start of the second
half and John Niven shot narrowly over, before Paul
Roberts has a goal disallowed for handball. Whitehill
again began to dominate in the closing stages and Gormley
and Calvey came close before Gormley finished the
scoring to complete an emphatic opening league victory for
the home side.
