King Cup 1st Round, Saturday 17th February 2007
Whitehill Welfare 3 Edinburgh City 2
Whitehill triumphed
without their suspended striker Nicky Walker and keeper
Ryan McGurk who is recovering from a groin strain.
City could have been two
goals ahead in the opening minutes with two efforts
sailing over the bar when it looked easier to score.
They were left regretting
those misses when Welfare went in front after five
minutes. McIntosh crossed from the right to the back post
where Lee hit a first time left-foot shot into the ground.
His effort was going off-target but it sat up nicely for
Andy Christie who reacted with a fine overhead kick
which left the keeper helpless.
Welfare went further
ahead in the 16th minute. A Pryde cross into the box found
Malone and he cracked the ball home.
City reduced the deficit in the 27th minute when Noon
delivered a dangerous cross to the front post and Ross
planted a superb diving header into the roof of the net.
Into the second half and
ex-Welfare man Kenny Young broke free on the right and his
low cross found Ross who sent a first time shot at Swain
who made a mess of trying to save the effort and it
squirmed into the net to level the game.
In the 75th minute
McIntosh restored Welfare's lead with what was the
decisive strike of the game. Pryde's free kick from the
right was met by McIntosh on a half-volley and his
shot whistled into the net to the delight of the home
fans.
