Spartans 2 Whitehill Welfare 1
Spartans dented
Whitehill's League title hopes with a 2-1 in at City Park.
Kevin Motion put Spartans ahead after just five minutes.
His free kick taken from midway inside Whitehill's half
swirled in the strong wind as it made its way into the six
yard box. The ball dropped towards Andy Doig and the
Welfare midfielder had the misfortune to header the ball
backwards into his own net.
Welfare had the wind
and slope to contend with but they were soon level in the
14th minute. Pryde's free-kick from 30 yards out spun
dangerously into the box. A half clearance from the
Spartans defence fell to Doig on the edge of the area and
he smashed a powerful drive into the corner of the net.
Just before the half
hour mark, Spartans regained the lead. Motion curled in a
free-kick using the wind to his advantage and the ball
missed everyone and curled into the top corner of the
net. Whitehill should have had a penalty shout in the
50th minute, when Walker went down in the box after an
awkward Seeley challenge but amazingly the claim was
turned aside. Pryde then came close with free-kick effort
from 20 yards out which flew just wide of Brown's left
hand post.
