A match curiously missed from the Edinburgh Evening News round-up of
East of Scotland Senior football! Be thankful for
the Midlothian Advertiser and the Whitehill website
and match programme!
Welfare led 4-0 at half-time thanks to a superb display of finishing
from Colin McDonald. The wee man had chalked up a
hat-trick inside half an hour - the first an easy
tap-in from a Forrester cross, the second another
easy tap in after a defensive lapse and the third,
yet another gift, when Tait made a hash of a
clearance and another cool and collected finish had
Welfare in easy street. It was four after 37 minutes
when Gareth Henderson brought down Raymond Shanks
and Andy Hogg made his usual immaculate job from the
penalty spot.
The second half saw Andy Hogg and Raymond Shanks earn a rest with the
former looking to recover from the effects of a
niggling knee injury. With such a commanding lead,
Welfare relaxed in the second period and played a
good deal of containment football until a crazy and
needless flare-up in the 74th minute. A
tackle by Beesley on Forrester brought an angry
reaction and when the dust settled the Whitehill
striker was sent off for his part in the
proceedings. The red card took the gloss off what
was an easy win and you got to thinking that if
Welfare had kept up their first half momentum then
they could have considerably boosted their goal
difference.
