Dear Sirs
On your website, on the page entitled
'In and Around Ferguson
Park', I see that there is displayed a
photo which is said to be that of the side of '64-65
but which does not include at least four of the
regular players [including myself] who were either
absent through injury or were unavailable on
the day of the photo shoot. As I recall, that was
the team's first outing in the new style of strip
and the photo was taken simply to record that
event.
I have attached a copy of the team photo which was
published in the old "Pink News" around Nov.
1965 and which, as well as showing the silverware
won, is a better representation of the playing
personnel of the time. It includes all of the
"regulars" other than the team captain, John Frame
and the left-back Derek Woods.
This
photo is a
snapshot of what was a
hugely enjoyable time in my life, a time which, even
after 40-odd years, I still remember with quiet
satisfaction and a sense of achievement and I
am grateful to Whitehill for having afforded me the
chance to play in such a fine side. I trust that
you'll find the photo interesting and useful and
hope that the Whitehill success story will continue
unabated.
Kind regards,
Joe Rynn, Team of '64/65
1964-5 side with Cups displayed left to right:
Walker, Reid, Howard, Di Rollo, Porter & the league
championship trophy.
Back:
Peter McGauley, "Pud" Watson (Sen.), Jim Moffat,
Bill Shanks, Bobby Beveridge (Snr). Middle:
Willie Walker, Willie Finlayson, Jackson Cockburn,
Jim Hastie, George Finlayson, Brian McGarry,
Front: Derek
Waterson, Tommy Peters, Eddie Thomson, Joe Rynn,
